How to Measure Your Head for a Custom Wig

What You’ll Need:

  • Soft measuring tape (preferably in inches)
  • A mirror (or someone to assist)
  • A pen and paper (or notes app) to record measurements
  • Hair should be flattened (braided, wrapped, or under a wig cap) if present

Key Wig Measurements:

1.

Circumference

  • Measure around your entire head.
  • Start at the front hairline, go behind the ears, around the nape of the neck, and back up.
  • 👉 Most important measurement for cap size.

 Example: 21.5” – 23.5”

2.

Front to Nape

  • Measure from your front hairline (center of the forehead) straight back over the crown to the lowest point of the nape.

✔ Example: 13” – 15”

3.

Ear to Ear (Over Top)

  • Start at the top of one ear, go over the crown, and end at the top of the opposite ear.

✔ Example: 11.5” – 13.5”

4.

Temple to Temple (Across Front Hairline)

  • Place the tape at one temple, follow the hairline across the forehead, and end at the other temple.

✔ Example: 11” – 13”

5.

Ear to Ear (Across Nape)

  • Measure from one ear, go around the back of the head just above the nape, to the other ear.

✔ Example: 5” – 6.5”

6.

Nape of Neck

  • Measure the width of your neck at the base of your hairline.

  ✔️ Example: 4” – 6”
